Metal removal from CoMo/NiMo catalyst change-out wastewater

Return to the overview

Metal removal (CoMo/NiMo)

A refining and petrochemical company generates metal-contaminated wastewater during CoMo/NiMo catalyst change-outs across multiple production units. Due to tightened environmental regulations, direct discharge is no longer permitted, leaving incineration as the only available option.

Inopsys conducted laboratory tests on representative wastewater samples and developed three treatment concepts in close consultation with the client. After technical and operational evaluation, a dual ion-exchange (IEX) solution with different adsorption media was selected for optimal metal removal.

Given that catalyst replacements occur at various locations across the site, the unit was designed as a mobile, ATEX-compliant installation for safe and flexible deployment wherever needed, eliminating the need for incineration and ensuring full compliance with environmental regulations across the entire facility.
