Removing PFAS from soil-washing water

Return to the overview

Cleaning the cleaners

A construction company manages PFAS-contaminated soil by transporting it to their soil washing facility, where the soil undergoes a physico-chemical cleaning process. This process involves an intensive wash using water combined with specific additives. As a result, PFAS compounds are transferred from the soil into the wash water.

To facilitate the reuse of this wash water, Inopsys implemented a closed-loop treatment system that effectively removes PFAS using ion-exchange resins. This treatment is conducted within a fully automated containerized unit, which includes both a pre-treatment phase and an ion-exchange filtration step. The system is carefully engineered, with optimized column configuration and quantity, to maximize PFAS removal efficiency

PFAS removal and water reuse

Operational since May 2025, the unit enables PFAS removal from soil wash water in Germany using a closed-loop, automated ion-exchange system. The unit is remotely controlled from Inopsys HQ in Belgium, ensuring water reuse with near-zero wastewater discharge.

Our solution is compared to standard GAC

HIGHER IN ADSORPTION CAPACITY

BETTER TO REMOVE OF LONG AND SHORT CHAIN PFAS

MORE COMPACT INSTALLATION, WITH LIMITED FOOTPRINT

MORE SUSTAINABLE, DUE TO REGENERATION OF ADSORBENT

HAS A LOW TOTAL LIFE CYCLE COST

COMBINES OTHER TECHNOLOGIES TO BE ABLE TO RECUPERATE WATER
