Ensuring compliance by reducing PFAS from ppb to below detection limits

Targeted PFAS removal from groundwater

A chemical industry client faced new permit requirements mandating the removal of PFAS from historically contaminated groundwater extracted onsite. Prior to this, no treatment solution was in place to address the PFAS pollution.

Inopsys conducted a laboratory comparison of ion exchange (IEX) resins versus granular activated carbon (GAC) for PFAS removal on the client’s groundwater. Based on the findings, a standard treatment system combining pre-filtration and ion exchange resins was installed. The system treats an average flow of 5 m³/h, reducing PFAS from parts per billion (ppb) levels to below detection limits.

The installation consistently removes PFAS to below permit limits and detection thresholds, meeting regulatory demands.

Operational since September 2024, the system offers the client the most cost-efficient and compact solution tailored specifically to their groundwater stream.

PFAS treatment at the source

This project exemplifies treatment at the source, not end of pipe, providing an efficient and proactive solution. Moving rapidly from proof of concept at lab scale directly to full-scale installation without a pilot phase, the client met permit requirements on time. The system is a containerized, mobile standard PFAS treatment unit, offering flexibility and ease of deployment.

Our solution is compared to standard GAC

HIGHER IN ADSORPTION CAPACITY

BETTER TO REMOVE OF LONG AND SHORT CHAIN PFAS

MORE COMPACT INSTALLATION, WITH LIMITED FOOTPRINT

MORE SUSTAINABLE, DUE TO REGENERATION OF ADSORBENT

HAS A LOW TOTAL LIFE CYCLE COST

COMBINES OTHER TECHNOLOGIES TO BE ABLE TO RECUPERATE WATER
