Supporting wetland restoration through Business for Nature

This week, Inopsys was proud to receive a bronze label at the Business for Nature Symposium organized by Natuurpark Rivierenland at Technopolis in Mechelen. The recognition was presented by ambassador Jan Jaap van der Wal to partners who, in 2025, invested between €5,000 and €20,000 in local projects that help make our region more climate-resilient.

Several inspiring initiatives were presented, and the day concluded with a compelling talk by Nic Balthazar on the urgency of tackling climate change and biodiversity loss — followed by a moment of collective engagement, as participants literally sang for the climate.

This message resonates deeply with us at Inopsys. As a company focused on circular water solutions, we understand the close relationship between water management, ecosystem health, and climate resilience - especially here in Mechelen, where rivers and wetlands form the natural fabric of our surroundings.

Unfortunately, these ecosystems have suffered greatly over time. Historical interventions such as straightening rivers have damaged wetlands and removed natural buffers that once protected our landscapes. In the past 60 years, Flanders has lost 75% of its wetland areas, with far-reaching consequences not only for biodiversity but also for agriculture, which faces declining water availability and reduced productivity.

To address these challenges, the Natuurpark Rivierenland coalition was founded in 2019. Through the Business for Nature initiative, local agencies, municipalities, Natuurpunt divisions, and businesses are joining forces to finance nature-based solutions that restore balance to our ecosystems. In return, the coalition offers a strong communication platform, an engaged local network, and team-building opportunities that connect companies directly with the nature they help protect.

Together, these efforts contribute to restoring climate buffers across 15 municipalities: an inspiring example of collaboration between nature, community, and business. Find out more at https://www.natuurpunt.be/natuurpark-rivierenland/business-for-nature

At Inopsys, we’re proud to support such initiatives and remain committed to protecting biodiversity and water systems - both locally and globally - as part of our mission to make industrial water treatment more sustainable and circular.
